JEAN-LUC THOMAS QUARTET

© Alain Le Bourdonnec

Artists

Jean-Luc Thomas – composition, flute
Simon Le Doaré – double bass
Hugo Pottin – drums
Timothée Le Net – diatonic accordion

Show

The artistic voyage of Jean-Luc Thomas, the flute-player and composer, followed the warmth of the festoù-noz and in pubs nourished by conversations, to the heat of Africa, Brazil, India, Niger, and often among the cooler airs of Europe, especially Poland. Embedded in these and all his other musical stops en route is this artist’s deep belief in the artistic and intellectual values born from exchanges among the world’s cultures, their musics, their personalities, their literatures – especially  their musical and written poetry. Their exchanges bring fresh ideas from sharing and listening  to improvisations, reactions, interactions, and have led to his creation of Ex-Anima, to the tour with Zingaro, and on to his first personal album Oficina Itinerante. His latest venture is the creation of Sillons in which he joins three strong Breton personalities, like himself, nourished by their deeply-artistic soil. A quartet, inventive on each occasion, and completely capable of improvisations are : Simon Le Doaré, double bass; Hugo Pottin, drums; and Timothée Le Net, diatonic accordion. Sillons, this new entry in Jean-Luc’s musical travel-diary bears its big “Thank you” to all those masters whom Jean-Luc Thomas met, and will meet, on his way.
